Driscoll Children's Hospital’s International Services is the point of contact for a wide variety of medical specialties, state-of-the-art medical technology, continuing medical education and assistance with all the needs for foreign families. Our goal is to provide the most pleasant and comfortable visit possible for our international patients and families. We continually offer hope and healing to foreign communities through innovation, advocacy, education, research, and medical excellence in pediatrics.

Mcallen Specialty Center

Driscoll Children's Hospital works in conjunction with healthcare professionals located outside the U.S., by beginning to offer Telemedicine sessions in different institutions abroad. Following this and if a referral is made, we will make any necessary recommendations for the transport of the patient to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas and any specialized medical and/or surgical care that he or she will receive while here. This will ensure that your pediatric patient receives the most appropriate and expert treatment in their special situations.

International patients and families at Driscoll Children's Hospital are assisted throughout all the stages of their healthcare experience by International Services for Patients, which makes all the necessary arrangements prior to their arrival.

LABORATORY

LaboratoryThe Laboratory is another vital department that provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have 57 dedicated employees who have attained various proficient certifications, including Masters degrees and certified EMTs, all certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Some of the services provided by the laboratory include Anatomical Pathology Support, which consists of surgical, biopsies, or any analysis related to tissues, and Clinical Services that includes analysis of blood, and bodily fluids. Currently the Laboratory Services team is in the process of bringing Renal Biopsy procedures in-house, to meet the needs of our patients and doctors.

The dedicated professional team at Driscoll Children’s Hospital Laboratory represents a full service Laboratory with an array of high quality testing in all sections.

DCH Laboratory’s state-of-the art Flow Cytometry Department offers rapid testing and concise diagnosis of leukemia/ lymphoma patients, DNA analysis of solid tumors, and immunophenotyping of the peripheral blood of HIV positive patients.

DCH Laboratory’s allergy testing encompasses over 100 individual IgE specific allergens to include specific molds, grasses, weeds, trees, food, contactants, feathers, dust, dust mites, epidermis and insects. As well as individual testing, we offer four allergy profiles which are: The South Texas Allergies Profile, The Food Allergies Profile, The Basic March Allergies Profile and The Comprehensive March Allergies Profile.

RADIOLOGY

RadiologyDriscoll Children's Hospital counts on state-of-the-art Radiology equipment including the new PACS - Picture Archiving and Communication System. This high-tech equipment has many benefits for patients and physicians- one of them being that it shortens distances among the territories of South Texas and Northern Mexico. Our clinics in McAllen and Brownsville also have specialized personnel to operate the PACS system which are connected to the network and available for consultations with specialized Radiologists at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi.

TELECOMUNICATIONS

Driscoll Children's Hospital has a telecommunications system that covers an extensive variety of services. Our aspiration is to offer pediatric specialty services to other healthcare facilities regardless of their location or limited access, so that patients and physicians in need can be reached. By doing this, we can also prevent unnecessary costs related to patient transport or travel because the patient can be examined from a remote distance through the interactive medical technology.

The telemedicine system is connected to the telecommunications network, as well as the Driscoll subspecialty clinics in the Rio Grand Valley. In addition, Driscoll has the capacity to connect to a great variety of means that telemedicine and videoconferencing standards require.
